Multi-Quantum Well Lasers, GaAs-AlGaAs Heterostructures

I took a class on semiconductor physics last semester taught by Professor Benyamin Davaji, ECE 7201, and our final was to write a paper on a solid state device or technology. I’ve been interested in photonics for a while so I chose GaAs-AlGaAs MQW heterostructures for photonic applications. Below is my short paper submitted on the topic about the physics and the applications and manufacturing as well as current state of the technology/research. Most of this comes from “Fundamentals of Photonics” by Saleh.

A lot of the paper is dedicated to covering the basics of lasers and semiconductor manufacturing, like epitaxial beam growth and stimulated emission which I didn’t know about before. I learned a lot in the process, I hope you learn something from this too!
